Irene de Higes holds a Degree in Translation and Interpreting from the Jaume I University. Her doctoral dissertation was about dubbing and subtitling into Spanish of multilingual films (link). She has worked as a production assistant in a dubbing studio and as a translator specialized in film articles, dubbing and voice-over for television, subtitling and audio-description. She has also taught at the International University of Valencia, ISTRAD and the European University of Valencia.

At present, she is a researcher at the Department of Translation and Communication at the Jaume I University and a member of the TRAMA research group (Translation and Communication in Audiovisual Media). She teaches audiovisual translation (voice-over, dubbing and subtitling) and audiovisual accessibility (audio-description for the blind and subtitling for the deaf). Her research focuses on multilingualism, identity, audiovisual translation and accessibility
