Luis Alonso Bacigalupe
Principal Researcher, University of Vigo
Dr Luis Alonso Bacigalupe is principal researcher in the project. He teaches simultaneous and consecutive conference interpreting at the University of Vigo. His research focuses on the application of the empirical paradigm to simultaneous interpreting. He is the author of an information processing model for simultaneous interpretation, intended as a guide for the training of successful future conference interpreters. A second line of research includes the definition and measurement of quality in simultaneous interpreting and the development of computer-aided tools for SI.
He has recently developed a profound interest in issues revolving around accessibility, i.e. the provision of translation services to compensate for the limitations of people with sensory impairments. That was the trigger of another line of research: the assessment of automatic and non-automatic workflows, including the combination of Automatic Speech Recognition and Machine Translation, but also Speech To Text Interpreting or Interlingual Respeaking, for the provision of Live Subtitles.
